Objectives
The objectives of the Busselton Population Medical Research Foundation include:
To control and manage the Busselton Health Study property.
To enter into formal cooperative agreements with organisations given custody and accepting responsibility for the care, storage and maintenance of specific Busselton Health Study property.
To raise funds by collections of subscriptions and levies from members, by charges to approved users for specified access to Busselton Health Study property, by donations and grants from individuals, corporations, benevolent institutions, governments or any source approved by the Board, by the sale of products and services and by any means of lawful fundraising approved by the Board.
To promote and develop an interactive association with public health and health science training programs within Western Australian universities.
To recognise and represent the interests of all individuals and organisations who contribute to the Busselton Health Study program.
To foster research relevant to the Busselton Health Study program and to provide guidance, supervision and financial support to projects approved by the Board.
To promote and develop liaison and cooperative relationships with the Busselton community and community based organisations.
Membership and subscription
Membership of the Foundation is open to persons who have participated in the activities of the Busselton Health Study program and to others whose interests are supportive and compatible with the objectives of the Foundation. Applications for membership shall be made in writing and considered and rejected/accepted by the Board.
The annual cost of membership is $50 ($10 membership, $40 donation). Members shall from time to time at a general meeting determine the amount of the annual membership subscription or any levy to be required from members.
Board of Management
All affairs and business undertaken by the Foundation are conducted and managed by the Board of Management.
Given adequate numbers elected and qualified to represent special interests the Board may be comprised:
Research: Five members. Research representatives will usually have tertiary qualifications in medicine, science or statistics and a current, past or prospective involvement in the Foundation's research activities.
Community: Up to four members including up to two who represent the Busselton community. Community representatives may have a commercial qualification or experience in business administration, local government, marketing, public relations or similar areas.
Medical or Health: Up to four members who will be General Practitioners or health professionals in practice in the Busselton shire.
The duties of the Board of Management include:
ensuring that the Foundation operates within the constraints of its Constitution
governing and controlling all activities associated with the Busselton Health Study
determining rules for data access
determining rules for collaboration with other researchers
establishing agreements with custodians of assets such as the computerised data base in the UWA School of Population Health and the blood samples stored in the RPH Department of Immunology

Advisory Committees
The ideas, input, and advice of key community, government, business and scientific people not directly involved in the Foundation's activities are obtained through advisory committees. Two advisory committees currently exist:
The Scientific Research Committee includes people with special knowledge, experience and skills in population health research and training. These are generally senior university people and senior scientists. This Committee advises the Board on matters of policy and planning in relation to its general scientific program of activities.
The Busselton Health Survey Action Group seeks to provide voluntary assistance for the work of the foundation and stages events in the Busselton area in order to gain recognition for the Foundation.
