Projects beginning in 2009

Epidemiology and genetic epidemiology of obstructive sleep apnoea

Aims

  1. To investigate the association of demographic, socio-economic and environmental factors with susceptibility to Obstructive Sleep Apnea using a case-control design based upon the WASHS and BSN cohorts.
  2. To investigate the association of SNPs genotyped in the context both of genome-wide association studies and studies of candidate genes with susceptibility to Obstructive Sleep Apnea using a case-control design based upon the WASHS and BSN cohorts.

Genetic factors associated with cutaneous malignant melanoma susceptibility

Aims

1. To perform GWAS on pooled DNA from melanoma cases and pooled DNA from general population controls, to investigate genetic determinants of melanoma susceptibility
2. To conduct candidate gene analyses on genes of interest resulting from Aim 1
